Society goes through different stages and styles in art as social movements change and are inspired by the ever-changing culture. Some things, however, stay the same. Body positivity and inclusivity in art has existed as far back as art itself. From sculptures, to Renaissance paintings, bodies were always portrayed as coming in different shapes and sizes which was the beauty of them. The standard of beauty was in the eye of the beholder and it still is. The modern area of technology may have created a hiatus as photo editing became popular, yet society immediately protested in defense of leaving bodies to their natural shape in editing. This idea is something I attest to in my work and hope to inspire others to do the same and step in the right direction towards inclusivity and female empowerment.
In my sessions I like to offer my clients a unique experience that goes past the printed photo results. Recently I worked on images inspired by Renaissance paintings with an incredible client to bring back the romance and sensuality in this era of art to the modern day. Through the use of lighting and correct posing, we achieved incredible looks that alluded to the theme we wanted. I studied posing in paintings and what curves were highlighted as well as what the subject was doing, the movement of the hair, etc. to achieve similar results with images. And while the photos themselves are edited to enhance the colors, sharpen the lines, soften items like fabric, the body is left to its beautiful and natural shape.
This shoot got me thinking about the beauty of uniqueness that each person possesses and how much it can bring out in art as a forum. I wish to be an inspiration to women all around and provide a confident message not only to the clients I work with and meet in person but to every person out there in the world that sees my work.
Boudoir is expressive in the way it caters to so many positive areas of society and women empowerment; which makes it one of my favorite styles to shoot. While most images can make one feel powerful and beautiful, there is something about owning one's sensuality and beauty that goes beyond the studio session and reminds us that we are unique. My sessions are open to any and every client that wants creative and beautiful images that celebrate women and bodyscapes as a whole. While I can provide ideas for potential shoots, my clients are welcome and encouraged to suggest different looks and styles that best suit them and their desired look. From different styles to different eras, I will accommodate each client's artistic view. But most importantly, I want them to feel comfortable and confident and know that every body and shape is natural and beautiful, and celebrated. Our differences make us unique.
